October is National Employment of People with Disabilities Month

During October we honored the contributions that people with disabilities make to the workforce.  We were fortunate to have several partners in our celebrations and efforts to raise awareness.

Sam's Club hosted a Job Shadowing Day where twelve of our employees visited Sam's and performed jobs for the day to learn about the variety of jobs available.  Each person was matched with a mentor to work with and learn from.  At the end of the morning everyone enjoyed lunch together to share their experiences.

Olive Garden hosted an Employment Luncheon where we met with local employers to discuss the topic "Building a Diverse Workforce through an Untapped Labor Pool".  There are many benefits to employing people with disabilities and this event focused on highlighting those benefits and how our Supported Employment works.  We had guests with us from MultiWall, Mt Vernon Animal Clinic, Lowe's, Home Depot, Agriculture Extension and the Sheriff's Department.  We will continue to hold events to raise awareness about employment options for people we support.

Thanks for all of these partners we are helping people achieve their dreams!
